Sony's Smart ToupéeI’ve just finished watching Michael Douglas play Liberace in Behind The Candelabra, smartest looking man in a toupée. As a rule a hairpiece doesn’t sit well, they’re always obvious, rarely believable. Michael Douglas is a a rarity – NO MAN SHOULD EVER WEAR A WIG!

All that said, someplace in the galaxy YOU KNOW someone’s been trying to fit tech-stuff inside a wig, hide technology under not-real hair, it’s such an obvious fit, right?

Apparently someone at Sony, the genius’ behind Blueray, Walkman, Playstation and Plasma, thinks this idea might fly.

According to Bloomberg, Sony has filed for a US patent on a device called “Smartwig.” Clearly Sony has disobeyed the first rule of wig-wearing, “Never admit it’s a piece.”

The new Gizmo apparently has mobile connectivity – tablet + phone – it’s also kitted with built-in navigation, a health checker, camera and slide show viewer, seriously: refer to rule 1, never admit…

Sony – holding onto  the little wisdom it has left – has admitted it’s unsure if it intends to actually commercialise the device, but we still can’t get the image of a coke-bottle goggle wearing Japanese boffin dashing about the lab wearing his supershiny black Smartwig :: Read the full article »»»»
