Kogans’s new Android-powered Agora 8-inch and Agora 10-inch tablets join Kogan’s Agora line, which also includes laptops and a 7-inch Agora tablet that launched earlier this year.

Budget tablet-pc’s seem to be the order of the week. While not as easy on the pocket as the Indian made Aakash tablet unveiled earlier this week. Our favorite consumer electronics manufacturer and online retailer, Kogan, has announced its own budget tablet offerings. Aside from the screen size and resolution – 800 x 600 for the 8-inch and 1024 x 768 for the 10-inch – the specs of the two models are identical. Both feature a 4:3 ratio capacitive touchscreen, are powered by a 1 Ghz Cortex A8 CPU and 512 MB of RAM, and come running Google Android 2.3 with access to the Android Market. There’s also an internal G-Sensor, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and 4 GB of onboard storage, expandable up to 36 GB via microSD card. Read the full article »»»»

Retailers have never really understood marketing, they’re clearly into selling. And that’s fine. But there is more to business than selling and retailers have never really equipped themselves to face all that, they have been asleep to the changing habits of consumers and consumerism in general, both locally and globally. The internet has been around for a couple of days now. You would have thought that at some stage retailers would have wondered where this new online buying/selling thing was going? Read the full article »»»»

Kogan's Got the Chrome

Posted: June 7th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Technoid Computer News | Tags: , , | Comments Off on Kogan's Got the Chrome

Australian consumer electronics manufacturer and ubersales biz Kogan, has shipped the world’s first notebook running Chromium OS. The release of the 11.6” Agora Chromium Laptop means that Kogan has pipped Samsung and Acer, whose Google-sanctioned Chromebooks are due out in a week. The Kogan isn’t exactly a high-end wizbang machine, it’s lacking a little on the specs, the 11.6” Kogan Agora laptop features a 1.3GHz Celeron M ULV CPU and 1GB of DDR2 RAM, upgradeable to 4GB. An Intel GS40 chipset with 256MB of shared graphics memory, 30GB SSD storage, 3 USB ports, 1 HDMI port, a memory card reader and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. Wireless connectivity is achieved via 802.11 B/G/N Wi-Fi, while battery life is a little disappointing – estimated at 3.5 hours. A key selling point for the Agora Chromium Laptop is fast loading – the machine boots in under 5 seconds and resumes instantly according to Kogan. The Kogan Agora Chromium Laptop is available online for Australian consumers and is priced at around – live pricing – $AUD290
