Sony’s Smartwig… Seriously A Technology Filled Toupée?

Posted: December 3rd, 2013 | Author: | Filed under: Sony, Standout | Tags: , , , , | Comments Off on Sony’s Smartwig… Seriously A Technology Filled Toupée?

Sony's Smart ToupéeI’ve just finished watching Michael Douglas play Liberace in Behind The Candelabra, smartest looking man in a toupée. As a rule a hairpiece doesn’t sit well, they’re always obvious, rarely believable. Michael Douglas is a a rarity – NO MAN SHOULD EVER WEAR A WIG!

All that said, someplace in the galaxy YOU KNOW someone’s been trying to fit tech-stuff inside a wig, hide technology under not-real hair, it’s such an obvious fit, right?

Apparently someone at Sony, the genius’ behind Blueray, Walkman, Playstation and Plasma, thinks this idea might fly.

According to Bloomberg, Sony has filed for a US patent on a device called “Smartwig.” Clearly Sony has disobeyed the first rule of wig-wearing, “Never admit it’s a piece.”

The new Gizmo apparently has mobile connectivity – tablet + phone – it’s also kitted with built-in navigation, a health checker, camera and slide show viewer, seriously: refer to rule 1, never admit…

Sony – holding onto  the little wisdom it has left – has admitted it’s unsure if it intends to actually commercialise the device, but we still can’t get the image of a coke-bottle goggle wearing Japanese boffin dashing about the lab wearing his supershiny black Smartwig :: Read the full article »»»»

SONY EXPERIA 2012Kazuo Hirai is due to formally take over as Sony CEO on April 1, replacing Howard Stringer. Hirai said that while some management changes had already been identified there was still a long way to go to “explain to everybody who’s doing what.” Sony has declared a return to the smartphone business, unveiling its first smartphones under the Sony brand, but warned the group’s painful transition would not be as fast as rebranding.

“People have these lofty expectations that we’re going to have all the answers to all the problems that plague the world on April 1,” Hirai said in an interview at the Barcelona Mobile World Congress. “We’re not going to have that.”

The once-stellar consumer electronics brand is heading for what it has warned would be a much bigger-than-expected $2.9 billion annual loss, its fourth in a row. The surge of red ink has put Hirai under intense pressure from investors and ratings agencies to quickly staunch losses at the sprawling electronics group.
