Technoid - iPhone Keyboard via SMH Digital LifeAs the song says – well kind ofSome guys have all the fun! Ben Grubb is such a man, the Digital Life wunderkind gets bundles of superneat new gadgets thrown at him, from the big guys and the not-so-big guys.

This week he’s been tossed a neat little gadget for that device we refuse to cover – the iPhone – from one of the littler guys. A prototype app made for the iPhone 4 allows users to type on a keyboard made of paper using vibrations.

Created by Florian Kräutli, a university student in London, the “Vibrative” app makes use of the iPhone’s inbuilt accelerometer, reading vibrations as a finger taps a surface to work out which key is being pressed.

According to the Daily Mail, the software works out the approximate location of a strike on a paper keyboard by analysing the strength and frequency of tremors through the surface the iPhone is resting on :: Read Ben Grubb’s full article at Digital Life »»»»

Apple Gets Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Banned, AGAIN!UPDATE!! The behemoth that is Apple has won another temporary injunction to stop rival Samsung from selling its Galaxy tablet computer in Australia. On Wednesday – just 2 days ago – we reported that the Federal Court had lifted a previous injunction, meaning Samsung could start selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 at 4pm (AEDT) today. But Apple later launched an appeal to the High Court. The injunction means Samsung cannot sell the tablet computer until the case goes before the court on December 9. Apple says the South Korean company’s Google Android based Galaxy range of tablets and smartphones is too similar to its iPad and iPhone. The companies have been waging a battle in 10 countries over smartphone and tablet patents since April.

With your iPhone mounted on the AppGun, Alien Attack game installed and running its time to start dispatching the invading alien horde. Watching your iPhones screen Alien Attack will reveal the Aliens not visible to the naked eye. Using the two triggers you are tasked with clearing the room.

Part of a new generation of video game AppBlaster is one of the first augmented reality video games. Augmented Reality melds real world footage from your phones camera with computer generated graphics, in this case Aliens just asking for a butt kicking. Alien Attack isn’t location specific either, no matter where you are it will reveal the hidden alien invasion. To keep the action smooth and convincing the software has to keep the computer generated graphics in place over the live footage even though the camera on the phone will be moving about. Your phones motion sensors are used for just this purpose, keeping the two pictures synchronized :: Read the full article »»»»

ADOBE TO KILL OFF FLASH

Adobe Recasts Flash as an App Builder and Embraces HTML5, the Flash Mobile Killer

. . . you can’t play Flash content on an iPhone or iPad?! Well, you can cross that argument off the mobile decision list. As we predicted back in early October: Adobe Kills Flash.  According to a scoop last night on ZDNet, Adobe has announced that they are stopping development on Flash Player for mobile browsers. ”Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations.”

Adobe is, in fact, finally heeding Steve Jobs’ advice. In a public letter – below – about Flash last year, Jobs said, “Even if iPhones, iPods and iPads ran Flash, it would not solve the problem that most Flash websites need to be rewritten to support touch-based devices. New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind” Read the full article »»»»

The growth of Googles Android platform has been stratospheric over the past 12 months, at October 2010 Android held 19 percent of the U.S. smartphone market – with Apples iPhone iOS at 24 percent. Fast forward 12 months to October 2011 and Android was holding 38 percent of the smartphone market, an increase of almost 20 percent, against Apples 26 percent, an increase of only 2 percent. Androids big big numbers is also reflected in it’s massive increase of available apps to 500,000.

Note worthy is Samsungs strangle hold on the smartphone market. Our favorite semiconductor behemoth has consistently outperformed Apple in sales. Samsung smartphones make up almost 25 percent of the U.S. market, while the much lauded Apple iPhone has consistently sat below 9 percent. This explains Apples aggression toward Samsung [check the litigation links]  84.5 million smartphone handsets in the U.S. equates to 21 million Samsung handsets to Apples 8 million iPhones, ouch! UPDATE: Apple FAILS New Samsung Court Bid

Apple vs SamsungApple’s bid to prevent Samsung from launching any new tablet in Australia until its patent infringement case goes to a full hearing has been rejected by the Federal Court. Justice Bennett also denied Apple’s request that it be given advanced copies of any tablet that Samsung may launch in Australia until the full hearing, which is likely to take place next year. Justice Bennett’s final orders were that Samsung be prevented from launching “any version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1” until the completion of proceedings.   Apple’s lawyer stated that the Apple was afraid that Samsung would launch a new tablet in Australia without Apple having the chance to check if it infringed its patents. “Our submission is that direction which would provide us a copy of the version proposed to be launched 10 days in advance,” said Apples Lawyer.
