Google Gmail Makeover

GOOGLEThe Google designers have been flatout lately, they’ve done some serious make-overs on everything from Analytics control panels to Youtube. Smack in the middle of all of this is the make-over Gmail has had bashed into it, and as always with Google updates and makeovers many punters aren’t happy.

This new clean white look Google is heavier on specs, however the clean white makes everything look a little less, infact all of the Google products that have undergone  the clean white make-overs now offer much much more, including Gmail.

As always with Google products, there is a quick and übersimple – but hidden – FIX!

  1. Goto the little cog logo aka SETTINGS
  2. Select COMPACT
  3. Breathe OUT!
Google reckons they’ve made the entire experience a heap easier as well as cleaner ::::

Google Gmail Search

While your getting yourself accustomed to the new sleek white n grey Google, rest assured that under the hood things just got a heap better, faster and smarter. The way your emails sit on the page – squashed or stretched – is now much more fluid, Comfortable for larger monitors or Compact for eBooks and Tablet PCs.

Gmail’s new thread search is superfast, as well as being just a little clever. The custom search is via a very clued in dropdown menu. The threads themselves pop, the less clutter look makes for ease of use as well as look. Chat is cuterfied with embedded pix and a new chain look, BUT . . .

Google Gmail Chat PaneGRIPE! The only complaint from here, is the scroll replacement from the once static Labels and Chat panes. The resolution has everything to do with . . .  well resolution, you can increase your resolution or shrink your page size (like my eyes can cope with smaller txt!) Seriously, being old and blind is coming soon enough . . .

If the Chat Pane is sat on the page under normal conditions, it has scroll (which I clearly dislike) If the page is scaled down by 50% i no longer have scroll, but I can’t read the page!!

Credit to Google, this is my ONLY gripe, Gmail just got a heap better. Clearly we’re more than happy with the new Gmail layout, how are you coping?
