Hot Faces of Computer Gaming

Gamer GirlsWe love a stereotype, but even we have to admit that the generalization about gamers is now defunct. Gaming is not just the territory of the nerds, it is now crossing all social boundaries.

The stereo type used to be under 30 male with definite nerd leanings, even more specifically it was the nerds kingdom, times are a changing. Now within the gaming community all demographics are covered, while it may still seem to be dominated by Nerds, it now has representation from every group you can think of, no matter how you slice and dice it, gaming is the new entertainment king.

The most interesting aspect of this is the changing demographic is the Gamer Girls. While girls have always played games the video game industry has often been described as a male dominated world. With Facebook mixing social and gaming the increase in gamer girls has really taken off.

This change to making gaming more social has really opened the market up to the gamer girls. It’s about freaking time too, the gaming industry was starting to get stale and will only improve with the injection of new blood. This can be seen in the diversity of games out there now, 15 years ago there were only a few categories of games – Driving, Strategy, FPS, RPG - where  as now anything is being turned into a game even hurling Angry Birds all over the place, or Farming.

Just looking around the web you can see there has been an explosion of girl specific gaming sites. Check out GameGirl by Raychul Moore and her girl friends a great example of a really good gaming community site, well put together too, good stuff girls. Also  way out there is PMSClan, the name alone cracks us the hell. If we had to shave our – boy – legs and don a wig to get close, it’d definitely be worth it, these girls are Hot! ::::

Gamer Girl # 1. Raven Alexis

RAVEN ALEXISPossibly the Ultimate Gamer Girl, Raven hangs out in LasVegas, is an adult film star, gamer and she even builds her own PCs. Without a doubt the hottest nerd ever with the added bonus of just being plain old cool.

She verges on being obsessive with gaming, which rocks.

We especially identify with Ravens love for strategy games, logical when you consider she started playing Age of Empires at 14, outstanding even for a girl gamer.

Raven may well be the only girl character in World of Warcraft that is as hot as her avatar, by the way she has finished every expansion pack. Oh and she codes her own websites.

Gamer Girl # 2. Raychul Moore

Rachul MooreRaychul keeps herself plenty busy as Pro gamer, game reviewer for various websites, runs her own websites and regularly kicks big mouth nerd butts at any game they choose.

With a wickedly sarcastic sense of humour she is one hot hot gamer girl.

Check out her site GemeGirl it’s an excellent gaming site or GamerBabe her games news feed site she runs herself.

When not gaming or reviewing Raychul enjoys horror films - anything with a zombie is fine by her,  collecting action figures – movie and game related collectables -  she may be the next queen of the nerds.

Gamer Girl # 3. Hex

HEXHex - the only Aussie on our list - she’s cute as a fluffy Bandicoot with a hardened steel edge -  flick blade bandicoot. She’s all tech our Hex. As one of the hosts of Good Game on ABC TV We always look forward to our weekly dose of Hex.

Hex has a serious rebelious streak, she faught for the right to game as a kid, her parents ran the usual party line of no gaming but she persisted.

She does get the hard core award for her love of the old school text adventure game Lensmoor, these games were pure imagination and persistance.

There is  a definite fantasy theme to the games she loves with Fable and other RPG’s high on her list.  And she gets extra points for TankGirl being her favourite film. Go Hex go.

Gamer Girl #4. Morgan Webb

Morgan WebbWe first noticed Morgan on TechTV in early 2000. She is the original TechTV hottie.

Morgan started out in the tech world working for a tech company that went bust during the 2000 tech buble, then as researcher for The Screen Savers before she scored her co-hosting role on TechTV.

Currently she co-host X-Play which taped its 1000th in 2010, does a column for FHM and has just started hosting her own show G4 Underground.

As you can tell she doen’t mind being in front of the camera, and the camera loves her.

Gamer Girl #5. Olivia Munn

Olivia MunnAs co-host of Attack of the Show Olivia has developed herself a cult following, Every nerd in the known universe has a pin-up poster of her, she’s smart, hot, funny and ain’t afraid of shakin that brilliant booty.

She is much more than that though as a comedian, writer, actress and host she is destined to be in front of the camera.

She also did a short stint for a show Formula-D, a drift racing tv show that was short lived but loved by those in the drifting scene. With many film credits – Big Stan, Date Night, Insanitarium, Iron Man 2 - to her name in the last few years expect to see much more of Munn.

Sign-o-the-times

Is it a sign that the gaming scene is now mainstream enough that all parts of society are joining in?

Facebook gaming is one of the fastest growing new sectors of the computer game industry, last year Zenga passed Electronic Arts - in market value - without even charging to play.

The ability of games to use the latest Internet technology has given it advantages that traditional entertainment can’t seem to keep up with.

Download-able content is another great example of the gaming industry adapting quickly, I’d like to see a paperback novel with downloadable content but it could be hard to staple it to the back of the book. Even Microsoft is jumping on the free to play bandwagon with Age Of Empires Online it’s obvious there’s lots of money to be made with this model.

As an industry, this ability to adapt and change quickly is one of the major advantages gaming has over more traditional entertainment .

This may be down to the fact that game developers have always had to adapt to new technology - new consoles every 3 to 5 years, new video cards every year.  We’d like to think it’s because most nerds are by nature pretty smart and imaginative, but even that picture of a nerd doesn’t ring true anymore.

The anti-social nature of nerdhood is still a barrier, this new generation of nerds seem a hell of a lot more social than the hard core nerds of the 90′s. Seems the standard laws of attraction apply in the gaming world, as well as out here –  hot is just HOT.
